More than half of all F-Series drivers regularly use their trucks for towing, which is part of the reason Ford made sure its 2011 pickup roster debuted with best-in-segment maximum tow ratings across the board. And now the company is launching an exclusive new technology that will help those drivers take advantage of that maximum power with minimum hassle: The Truck App.

Available solely on F-Series pickups with Ford’s 4.2-inch LCD instrument cluster screen—another class exclusive for the Blue Oval—the Truck App can lead drivers through all the steps necessary for a proper trailer connection in a simple, informative manner. The App’s checklist includes the following prompts:

* Ball coupler connected and locked?
* Tongue jack raised?
* Mirrors adjusted?
* Electrical wiring connected?
* Lights functioning correctly (running lights, left/right turn and brake lights)?
* Trailer Brake Controller gain setting adjusted?
* Wheel chocks removed?
* Safety chains connected?

In addition, the system can be configured to organize, track and store key information about accumulated mileage and other measures for up to 10 different trailers, making it ideal for drivers who are pulling multiple load-carriers.

But that’s just part of the picture. The Truck App also can deliver important information targeted directly at F-Series drivers who prefer pulling off the road to pulling on their trailers. With that same app, the 4.2-inch LCD screen can display a wide range of “pitch-and-roll” data, indicating the angle at which the truck is ascending or descending, its steering angle and roll angle, and the status of its 4X4 system. A specific screen on the F-150 SVT Raptor adds information about the truck’s Hill Descent Control, off-road mode and 4X4 system.

The F-150 LCD productivity screen, which brings the Truck App to customers, is now standard on all FX2/FX4, Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum models, and is available as part of the XLT Convenience package. For more information, talk to your local Ford dealer.
